*REVISED*ANTIQUE NEWCOMB COLLEGE JOSEPH MEYER-ALMA MASON MATTE CLAY FLORAL VASE c1913
Condition is pre-owned! This piece dates to c1913 and for 108 years old, it’s in excellent condition for its age in my opinion!
It has some natural crazing due to age visible on the buff clay on the inside at the top opening, which is shown circled in a photo, which passed the fingernail test. However, It also has an area circled in red that did feel a little rough with the fingernail test. I really couldn’t even see a definitive line with magnifier! I could also feel that roughness with just running my finger across it, which made me think it could just be some roughness in the pottery itself because it did have other areas that you could definitely tell it was the pottery! The more I look at the area in red, the more I think it’s just where the inside glaze has came off due to crazing! It is low down from the top lip and I had to tilt vase before it was even visible and no one would see it unless it was pointed out! Because I didn’t, until I looked the second time and had to revise listing!
There are absolutely no small hairline cracks visible on the outside of vase. Please zoom in and judge for yourself if you can live with a possible small one on the inside. It still doesn’t take away any beauty of this vase!
It also has a discoloration that is shown circled in a photo. I only wiped the piece with a damp cloth, I did not wash with soap and water. The buyer can do that.
I inspected closely for chips, repairs and any major cracks! I do not see any! However, as stated above there could possibly be a small hairline fracture on the inside of the vase that no one would see if it wasn’t shown to them. But I really feel like it’s because the inside glaze has flaked off some due to the crazing. Please use photos as part of the description.
It measures approximately 5 1/2” inches tall and approximately 6” wide/diameter. The opening measures approximately 2 2/1” inches in diameter.
This beautiful piece of Newcomb College Pottery is clearly marked/signed. It is a beautiful floral vase with a blue green matte finish/glaze.
It has the “N” in the “C” logo.
The potter who threw the clay is JM for Joseph Meyer.
The artist that decorated the piece is A.M. for Alma Mason! In my research, I did not find many pieces by her!
The “B” in the circle depicts Buff Clay was used.
The 205 stamp depicts the shape of piece.
And the “GF 106” depicts the numbering system that puts this piece at age of made at c1913!
The whole story of Newcomb College Pottery is very interesting part of Southern History!
Please ask any questions prior to purchasing!
I typically do not offer free shipping, but on this piece I will be willing to, as it will be shipped out with USPS Priority and it will be insured for the final selling price since it is a rare piece! And, it will be bubble wrapped to death as well!!
